OutBack Inverter/Chargers

are the next generation in advanced power management. Each is a DC to AC sinewave inverter, battery charger and AC transfer switch housed within a tough die-cast aluminum chassis.

Just like the local utility grid, the inverter produces true sinewave AC electricity for your stand-alone or backup power needs. Computers, TVs and pumps are just some of the examples of modern electronics that last longer and run better when powered with true sinewave electricity from an OutBack inverter. Starting up your air conditioning, washing machine or well pump is worry-free because of our high surge power capability.

Batteries and generators are the costly consumables when using inverters to generate electricity. The integrated smart battery charger uses multiple stages to perform quick recharging while prolonging battery life, saving your batteries and generator from unnecessary wear. Automatic switching between AC power sources is seamless due to an AC transfer switch that reacts in less than 16 milliseconds.

Unique networked communication is built into all OutBack products providing complete integration. Expanding your system with your growing power needs is as simple as adding additional inverters with modular architecture. Further flexibility is provided with the ability to be connected at any time in either parallel, series or three-phase power configurations. Industry leading OutBack reliability is achieved through simplified design and rugged construction.

SW Inverter/Charger

The SW Inverter/Charger is our most popular off-grid power solution.  Available in 24- and 48-volt models, it provides utility-grade output power and offers high surge capacity to run most household appliances.  The SW offers many programmable features including automatic generator start and stop as well as automatic load sensing. Its built-in, fully automatic, three-stage battery charger is designed to bring maximum charge to batteries, while using minimum generator run time and fuel.

Grid Tie: Using the Xantrex Grid Tie Interface (GTI), the SW converts energy from multiple renewable energy sources, such as solar, wind, and microhydro, into AC power, selling power you don't use back to the utility. Software/hardware revision 4.2 or higher is required to connect the SW4024, SW4048, or SW5548 to the GTI.

  • Available in 4000 and 5500 watt models
  • Utility grade, sine wave power
  • Durable construction for long life under extreme environmental conditions
  • Three-stage battery charging (bulk, absorption, and float) and battery equalization with remote temperature sensor for increased performance
  • Programmable control module with LCD display and LED indicators
  • Low idle current (less than 1 watt) conserves energy when no loads are present
  • Soft start capability for starting heavy loads
  • Built in starting control circuits for two- and three-wire generator starting systems

Expandable and Flexible

  • Parallel stacking capability for more power at the same voltage (optional equipment is required)
  • Three phase configurations available in a Power Module System for industrial quality power in remote locations (optional equipment is required; only available on 48-volt models)

SW Plus 2500, 4000 and 5500

Designed to provide homes with a completely independent power supply, SW Plus 2500, 4000 and 5500 Inverter/Chargers combine an inverter, battery charger and dual transfer switch in one package.

Available in 24- and 48-volt versions, the SW Plus offers continuous power output of 2.5, 4.0 and 5.5 kVA. The SW Plus provides AC power for household appliances and DC power to charge batteries. As part of an off-grid renewable power system, it converts all forms of renewable energy into utility grade household power. Details about the SW Plus are included in the latest edition of Renewable Power News. Information is also available in this FAQ.

The SW Plus can also be used as part of a backup power system to automatically provide AC power when utility power fails. For supplementary power, the inverter/charger can be combined with the optional Generator Start Module (GSM) to automatically start and stop a generator, based on user needs. To save on utility bills, the SW Plus can also be programmed to switch to battery power from utility power during peak-rate periods.

Product Features

  • 2.5, 4.0 and 5.5 kVA continuous output of sine wave power (to 40º C)
